This week in math, the children worked collaboratively in their table groups sharing our math materials. Here is Arthur's creation!

BOOK BUZZ
Reading is thinking! We have been brainstorming lists of all the different things that we think when we are reading. When we are ready to share our thinking, we use the term "Book Buzz" as way we can share our thinking in small groups, to the class or even to the podcasts we will create and upload to our blogsite next week in technology class!

Communicate Effectively!
This week we have been focusing in on one of ISKL's six SLRs, "Communicate Effectively". The students in 1CW explored the reasons why we need to be able to communicate effectively and that we play a different role when we communicate as the speaker and as the listener. We also played a fun game of broken telephone to help reinforce the importance of communicating effectively!

The Goldilocks Test
This week in reading workshop we have been performing the Goldilocks Test to see how well we can choose books that are "just right" for us. After reading a Goldilocks story, we learned that we should be choosing books that are "just right". Some of the characteristics of "just right" books include choosing books which we might now a bit about the topic, books in which we can read most of the words and we should be able to understand most of the book. Happy hunting while you are looking for "just right" books!

First Week of School For Grade 1CW!

Where is the gingerbread man?
This week our class took a very exciting walk around the school looking for the Gingerbread Man! We were led on a chase to Ms. Jag, the washrooms, the library, the nurse, Mr. Harduar's office, the art room, the music room, the lost and found and finally we found the Gingerbread Man in the canteen! A special thank you to Madam Wong who baked delicious gingerbread cookies for us to eat! Yum! Yum!
